Named after former state senator and decorated veteran, Hardy Williams, The Hardy Williams Veterans Center is a new 61-unit building in Philadelphia. The development provides permanent supportive housing for low-income veterans and seniors 55 plus earning between 20-60 percent of Area Median Income. About 20 percent of the apartments are set aside for veterans who are homeless or living in transitional housing, and 15 units are subsidized through Project Based Section 8 vouchers.

Service provider, Public Health Management Corporation, offers mental/physical healthcare, job training, education opportunities, case management, life-skills counseling and a link to Veterans Administration social services.

The energy-efficient one-bedroom apartments have a private patio/balcony and are equipped with Energy Star appliances, windows and light fixtures. Common area amenities include a community room with warming kitchen, laundry and resident gathering space on each floor, a large second-floor patio and rooftop vegetable garden. The development is near transit facilities, grocery stores, retail, restaurants and several large employers.

Hardy Williams received grants from LISC/National Equity Fund’s Bring Them HOMES veterans’ initiative ($40,000 from Met Life Foundation and $50,000 from Citi Community Development) and Home Depot Foundation funding.

National Equity Fund® invested $11.6 million of LIHTC equity in Hardy Williams, its third partnership with sponsor HELP USA.
