NEF is thrilled to have been a part of the groundbreaking of Placita Dolores Huerta, a new 110-unit affordable housing development for working families in the city of Coachella, California! The development is named after social justice warrior and farmworker advocate Dolores Huerta, who attended the event along with elected officials, community members and sponsors from the Community Housing Opportunities Corporation (CHOC).
For nearly 60 years, Huerta has worked tirelessly to ensure the civil rights of farmworkers and migrant laborers, which started with her co-founding the National Farm Workers Association in 1962. Through the years, she has organized strikes and protests, fought for improved working conditions, and been a pillar of advocacy and hope for Mexican American families across the country. In 2012, she was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom
NEF is proud to work alongside CHOC to honor and uphold the legacy of Dolores Huerto by providing affordable housing to those who need it most.
*And a special thank you to Noé Montes for capturing images at the groundbreaking
