While churches often open their doors to the community, Culver-Palms United Methodist Church has offered two-thirds of their property to support the creation of the largest 100% affordable housing development in Culver City, CA.
Our partners at Community Corporation of Santa Monica (CCSM) are developing Jubilo Village Apartments, which will have 95 units and a more flexible community space for the congregation. These buildings will replace the existing church facilities and a parking lot. More than half of the units (51) will be affordable for households earning 50-80% of the area median income (AM), 42 apartments are designated for households with special needs earning 30-50% AMI, and two are manager's units. On-site supportive services will be provided by Upward Bound House.
California state law SB4 was used to ease the way for developing affordable housing on faith-based property and Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove announced new federal funding for the development at the groundbreaking a few weeks ago. Special shoutout to Debbie Burkart for speaking at the event and to Meredith Hudak for attending!
