The Rise is a 72-unit, Passive House-certified mixed-use development in Brooklyn, New York providing 71 affordable homes, including 47 supportive housing units for justice-involved individuals and families. The development also provides affordable housing for households earning 30%, 40%, and 60% of the area median income (AMI) and is currently 100% occupied, demonstrating the strong demand for permanent supportive housing. Developed by Xenolith Partners, LLC through New York's Vital Brooklyn Initiative, the nearly $50 million project combines affordable housing with more than 13,000 square feet of community space offering employment services, legal assistance, mental health counseling, education, and wellness programs to help residents achieve long-term stability. Designed using Trauma-Informed and Active Design principles, The Rise promotes healing, safety, and well-being through abundant natural light, biophilic features, landscaped terraces, and a rooftop urban farm that improves food access and supports community education. The development is also a model of sustainable construction, earning Passive House certification and NYSERDA recognition for design excellence. By addressing the critical need for supportive housing in a neighborhood with high poverty and incarceration rates, The Rise strengthens the broader Brownsville community through shared services, green spaces, and workforce development, serving as a national model for innovative, sustainable permanent supportive housing.
