The former school buildings, owned by the Town of Winchendon, have been vacant for many years and poorly maintained. MVOC was selected by the Town of Winchendon as the designated developer, following a competitive RFP process. MVOC is dedicated to housing and providing assistance to vulnerable, and often homeless, military veterans in need of various supportive services. MVOC currently owns and operates 56 units of veteran supportive housing in Gardner and Winchendon and assisting over 800 veterans with case management, housing assistant/support services, counseling, benefits, food assistance, or transportation services in 2024. The new construction addition, connecting the two existing buildings, will include residential units, an administrative office and programming space. The proposed design reconfigures the interior of the existing buildings, updates the building exteriors, and incorporates energy efficient systems. The proposed 44 units are all 1-BR’s and intended for single occupancy. These 1-bedroom units will be available to veterans seeking affordable and independent permanent housing.
