We were thrilled to be a part of last week’s grand opening of The Brigadier General Hazel Johnson Brown Veterans Center at Help Philadelphia VI. The transformation of this abandoned school in North Philadelphia allows us to bring 51 one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments to those who need it most, with nine being set aside for formerly homeless or special needs veterans.
Public and private partners came together to convert an empty, vacant school into affordable housing for veterans and seniors. PHA President/CEO Kelvin Jeremiah, City Council President Darrell Clarke; Brown Veteran Center resident Jerry Hemmingway, state Rep. Donna Bullock; TD Bank Vice President Commercial Real Estate Matthew Schatz, Sen. Sharif Street’s representative Aissia Richardson and HELP USA’s Chief Housing Officer David Cleghorn.
This is the sixth project in Philadelphia for our incredible partners at HELP USA. We are honored to share and live out a joint vision to provide affordable and supportive housing to low-income seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. Congratulations team on another fantastic development!
