According to NYC.gov, data forecasting "suggests that if nothing is done, by 2030 the homeless population over 65 will triple again" from the population growth between 2004 to 2017 in New York City. This is why creating high-quality, senior housing developments like Fischer Senior Apartments is critical to support the increasing aging population.
Thanks to our partners at WSFSSH, a vacant lot in the Highbridge neighborhood of The Bronx has been revitalized and built from the ground up into 105 units of affordable housing for seniors. All units are reserved for seniors (55+) making less than 50% of the area median income with 59 dedicated to formerly homeless adults.
Fischer Senior Apartments goes above and beyond offering a safe haven for residents age 55 and older to age in place and with dignity by launching WSFSSH's Enhanced Care pilot program. The program's goal is to end the cycle of older adults served by NYC Health + Hospitals experiencing homelessness ending up in the emergency room and then on the street by providing permanent supportive housing with tools like home health aides, onsite healthcare coordination and wraparound services to help them successfully live independently.
Congratulations to our partners for making this happen!
